Play food

"Mummy do you want a tomato sandwich? And do you want some cucumber with that?"

How could I resist?  I then watched my son as he placed the tomato on the chopping board and cut it into pieces.  Each slice of tomato he placed between 2 slices of bread.  He's 3 and already learning to cook.

Well, it is only with his wooden play food but at least he's getting the hang of it.  Maybe those breakfasts in bed won't be too far away.

At the time I gave the cutting food set to him, he was reluctant to use his knife at the dinner table.  Since he's had it and has developed more co-ordination in cutting on his wooden chopping board, he's now able and much more willing to use his own knife at meal times.  And he even understands how sharp and dangerous they can be.

He loves the crunch sound when he cuts the food items, particularly the carrot.  And with this set he can even put them back together and cut them again.  As I stand in the kitchen preparing meals, he stands next to me with his apron and chef's hat (recent presents which I don't stock but which I'm seriously thinking about), with his own chopping board and knife chopping his courgette (that is when it's not a cucumber).

He was playing with our Melissa & Doug cutting food box set.
